They Built It and No One Came.

I am given to wonder recently about the companies that are clinging to the belief that people are actually visiting their brand specific websites. Very often it is a rather intuitive logical process to determine that in fact your consumers are not really interested in visiting ihaveacold.com or even worse brandxaspirin.com . I have been wondering more and more if “advertising” in the sense of 30 second preroll and banners will survive the new seismic shifts that are headed our way. The Audience is the Auteur

I find the whole area of fan fiction quite fascinating, but even more telling in some ways I believe is what the more savvy fans of sci fi movies are doing. Firstly there are these audacious projects in which they re-edit entire films. Secondly in games like Star Wars Galaxies they are inventing entire worlds together. It is certainly a different world from sitting in a darkened theatre waiting for your serving of the latest episode of the Star Wars series. Speaking of series I hear that George Lucas plans to make the Clone Wars into a TV Series rather than as I thought was the original plan to turn them into films. Marshall McCluhan would surely find this fascinating. You can’t get much “hotter” than the Star Wars movies and it is interesting that Lucas is moving them into a cold medium like television.
